Ever a lover of song and rhyme, Katherine Ladny Mitchell started playing with words as a child and never outgrew the habit. Her writing has appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Love is a Verb Devotional, Tea Time Magazine, HealthScope/CityScope, and two self-published books. Her infant son’s hiccups and husband’s use of the non-word, “hickerup” inspired her creation of Dr. Hickerup: The Hiccup Healing Man – the first book in the whimsical Up People series where everything is looking up! “Good stories are compelling, no matter what age you are,” Katherine says. “I wanted to write something that would delight not only the kids, but also the grownups reading to them.”
“I thank God for pairing me with my illustrator, Chelsea Spring, whose art rescued my manuscript from sitting on the shelf. Now Dr. Hickeup can finally sit on other people’s shelves!” Katherine’s other narrative nonfiction book, Don’t Settle for a Fairy Tale: True Love Story shares her romantic relational adventure with her husband, Jason, and came out in 2012 (www.dontsettleforafairytale.com). Katherine graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from Covenant College and lives in Chattanooga with Jason and their five Mitchell munchkins: Elijah, Selah, Caleb, Steward, and Aletheia. When Katherine’s not writing, she’s doing everything else, and always enjoys a cuppa tea with her girlfriends or her Creator during the kids’ nap time.
